THIS WEEK'S DATES

US CPI

November US CPI inflation data will be released on Tuesday. According to analyst expectations, it should be unchanged month-on-month, but its core value could rise slightly month-on-month. According to Bloomberg, this could open up room for the Fed to consider cutting rates. Bloomberg also estimates that inflation could stay below 3% in the first half of 2024

US rate decision

According to analyst expectations, the Fed is expected to leave interest rates unchanged for the third consecutive meeting on 12-13 December. This would close an imaginary cycle and Fed chief Powell could reveal the conditions under which rates would be cut.

Eurozone rate decision

Rates will also be decided in Europe. Analysts expect the ECB to leave all three rates (refinancing, lending, deposit) unchanged.

US PPI

The Producer Price Index is expected to accelerate slightly in November, mainly due to increased activity in the services sector in the run-up to Christmas.

Unemployment claims in the US

According to Bloomberg, data on US jobless claims will continue to be volatile, mainly on a non-seasonally adjusted basis.
