Amazon $AMZN-0.2% in talks to offer free mobile service to Prime subscribers in the U.S.

This news immediately negatively impacted telecom stocks such as $TMUS+0.6%, $VZ+0.8% and $T+0.2%.
According to YahooFinance, Amazon has been talking to wireless carriers about offering low-cost, or possibly free, nationwide mobile phone service to Prime subscribers. Negotiations have reportedly been ongoing for over a month and Amazon has been communicating with all of the aforementioned companies and $DISH+1.9%.
It is $DISH+1.9% that could benefit the most from this collaboration as it is trying to compete with the remaining companies and is already working with Amazon in the AWS segment. That's also why DISH stock is the only one up 15% compared to the others.

Great, thanks for the report. The news is great, however I would need some downside to buy the stock :)

I have AMZN:VZ in my portfolio in a 1:1 ratio. So I don't know if this is good news or bad news for me. If the companies went together, it would be for the best. 😁

If Amazon were to really engage significantly and successfully in this sector, its name will definitely pull in new users. It's actually a great business model when you have a platform where you sell a phone and a service straight to it.

And cheaper, because Amazon can afford it, unlike VZ and T, which are not in the best financial position.

Amazon can offer it, but the infrastructure will still have to be provided by the operators, right? So I don't understand why they're dropping

Because $DISH+1.9% is struggling financially, it needs investors to compete with the crooks. Amazon could provide exactly those funds and they could overwhelm the remaining companies. Also, these companies' subscriptions will drop if people buy Prime for less money.

Personally, I don't like the way Amazon and other giants are literally eating up individual segments, but it's great news for the stock

However, it could backfire a bit for Amazon, it's not easy to fight on so many fronts. Otherwise I agree, it's sad to see these giants gobbling up smaller companies. It's getting a bit boring in my opinion too. 😁

Also true. I'm mainly afraid of this in the horizon of maybe 10-20 years, when the big companies will have no other way to move forward than by doing business in practically "all" areas.

In short, I fear a situation of absolute monopoly/oligopoly

Cool report from $AMZN-0.2% shows he doesn't want to be left behind and he definitely has room to grow, super hold on. 😊

On the one hand, it could be great, Amazon is growing, great potential. But at the same time, it may be further delaying their profitability if they keep spending money, such as the recent Amazon Pharmacy. They're playing it long term no.

Will that be the reason to have Prime? I guess so, some people will definitely get used to it, there's a lot under Prime and those benefits too.

Wow! I was wondering why it's going down like that today. I took advantage of it and bought VZ, I don't think they will be in danger.

I'd buy, too, but I'm worried about how it's going to turn out. I can't imagine it yet. If $VZ+0.8% goes even lower, I'd dilute.

If these operators drop a lot, I'd probably buy them. I don't believe it would hurt them much in terms of margins.

Well Amazon :) This is going to bring a strong ripple to the operator ponds!
