🔌Technology sector under pressure: Nvidia and AMD warn, the whole sector reacts with a sell-off!
Tensions between the US and China are once again rocking the technology market. Chipmakers are reporting higher costs and regulatory uncertainty that is starting to weigh heavily on company results and outlooks.
The most visible case is the company Nvidiawhich has announced that it will not be exporting to China will book a charge of USD 5.5 billion. These are H20 GPU - chip that was designed to meet the export requirements imposed by the administration Joe Biden's executive order..
AMD followed up with news that the new export rules would affect its chips MI308which could cost the company up to $800 million.
📉 The market's reaction was not long in coming:
Nvidia $NVDA, AMD $AMD, Micron $MU, Marvell $MRVL, Broadcom $AVGO
💬 The reason is not just tariffs, but mainly uncertainty in global markets.
President Trump's announcement of new export controls, coupled with the threat of additional standalone tariffs on semiconductors, creates an uncomfortable and erratic environment for planning and growth. Although some exemptions for the chip sector remain, companies are beginning to report looming costs.
The company , $ASML, reported weaker orders and cited trade tensions as a major reason. The disruption is thus spreading across the entire ecosystem: from chip designers to device makers to end customers.
AIgrowth is not immune to regulation. Chips like the H100 or MI300 have become "strategic commodities" - and the higher their performance, the harder it becomes to get them into key markets, including China.
The semiconductor sector remains one of the most important pillars of the current market and one of the most vulnerable.
What is your view on the trade tensions between the major powers? Do you make any adjustments to your investment views on technology companies?
It's not good news for these two companies, but it doesn't change my opinion and I think AMD is a great company with a lot of potential.
I find Nvidia very interesting right now and the stock is already undervalued. I was selling a few months ago, but I'm buying again.
I hope that in time things will calm down and companies will be able to operate normally again. I took advantage of the downturn and bought $AMD.
