I don't hold the company, but it is currently near nice support.

I'm not. Despite a nice dividend, I don't like cyclical stocks. And as is usually the case, a high dividend is not sustainable, as evidenced by the post and comments here.

How much did the dividend go down? And why did it go down so drastically? I had Vale in my sights, but ended up investing in Rio for the short term.

What do you mean short-term? I'm still holding Rio even though it's going down, I trust it and I haven't seen any bad news so far.

For how drastically they cut, the payout is still not miraculously low
