💾 Micron raises the bar. AI turns memory chips into premium goods.
Micron Technology $MU announced an increase in revenue and profit guidance for the fourth quarter. Growing demand for HBM memory chips for AI data centers puts the company in a favorable position to dictate pricing terms. Shares responded to the news by rising more than 4%.
📊 The new outlook speaks volumes:
Q4 revenue: $11.2 billion vs. previous estimate of $10.7 billion
Adjusted EPS: $2.85 vs. previous estimate of $2.50
Gross margin (adjusted): 44.5% vs 42%
The major shift comes mainly from the DRAM a HBM memory, which are key to AI infrastructure. Micron is benefiting largely from rising prices, limited supply and strong demand.
🧠 Artificial intelligence sets the direction
Big players like Nvidia or cloud companies (Microsoft, Amazon, Google) are increasing investment in AI cloud, and on a huge scale. However, none of this works without high quality and powerful memories, and that's what Micronexists to do .
🏭American manufacturing as a strategic advantage
Unlike some of its competitors , Micronhas manufacturing capacity in the US and is expanding it all the time.
The total investment in manufacturing in USA is expected to reach USD 200 billion.
This will avoid the risk of newly imposed tariffs on chip imports.
Geopolitical neutrality thus gives the company a significant competitive advantage.
💬 Management view
"We are looking at all end markets. Prices are strong and we have managed to increase them significantly," said Chief Commercial Officer Sumit Sadana.
This is a key change from previous cycles when memory makers were pressured to reduce margins. Now it's Micronthat sets its own prices.
What's your opinion of Micron?
Great company and the stock has risen quite a bit in recent times. I'm a little annoyed I didn't buy in a few months ago.
